Tsuyoshi Wada named PCL pitcher of the week; Iowa/Memphis postponed

Monday night in Memphis, the Iowa Cubs and Memphis Redbirds were rained out in what was to be the finale of a four-game series at AutoZone Park. The game will be made up as part of a double header on May 28 in Memphis.

Iowa returns home to Principal Park to begin an eight-game homestand on Tuesday. The New Orleans Zephyrs, triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, begin a four-game series on Tuesday. The Zephyrs feature former I-Cubs outfielder Brian Bogusevic along with Justin Bour and James Leverton, both formerly in the Chicago Cubs minor league system.

The Round Rock Express, triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, visit Principal Park for a four-game series beginning Saturday. The Express’ feature former I-Cubs Brent Lillibridge and Brad Snyder.

In other Iowa Cubs news, Tsuyoshi Wada was named the Pacific Coast League pitcher of the week on Monday. In his first two starts for Iowa, Wada went 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA. Wada gave up only one run over 13 innings, while striking out 18.

Wada was signed by the Chicago Cubs after spending the last two seasons in the Baltimore Orioles organization. Wada only appeared in one game in 2012, undergoing Tommy John surgery.
