TSA announces new airport security rules and regulations. The TSA has announced some new airport security rules after Friday’s Detroit terrorist attack and more changes are expected, according to federal officials.
So far the changes have added lengthen lines at domestic airports, and many people are arriving 3 hours ahead of their flight time in order to make it through to the gate on time.
The Salt Lake City international airport had lengthy lines at security, and many people showed up for flights Monday morning unaware of the restrictions and missed their flight as a result. By 10 am, the issues seem to have been worked out.
International travelers have been limited on their ability to move about an airplane while in flight. One hour prior to landing passengers must stay in their seats without anything on their lap, including pillows and blankets. International passengers are also subject to pat-downs and bag searches, according to the TSA website.
While the US government has been vague about changes, stating that they want the security to be “unpredictable” and measures will vary airport-to-airport. The NY Times reported Sunday that a flight from Newark to Little Rock had cabin lights on during the entire flight.
A few airlines have released detailed information about their changes, so passengers are encouraged to check their airline website before leaving for the airport.
Many airports across the world are experiencing longer security lines because of the changes. International travelers are only allowed one carry-on item, and some airlines are waiving the extra fee for the bag they are not allowed to carry onto the flight.
So far, the US government has announced international changes sent through bulletins to airports, and additional changes to domestic travel are expected to be announced soon.
The TSA has also instructed airlines to turn off any GPS maps that may show the plane’s exact location to passengers.
