Every day life is demanding. From the moment you rise until you go to sleep you are pulled in multiple directions as you try to meet all of your obligations. You may be running on a half tank as your sleep time is seemingly the only opportunity you have to catch up. Ironically, the more you try to keep up with the world the more it throws at you. All of these demands can create additional challenges when you are married. You may find yourself in a situation where you have slowly, and most likely unintentionally, withheld from some of the special things you have done for or with your spouse. Subtle yet important things that tell them they are important to you.
Psalm 127:2 says that “It is vain for you to rise early, come home late, and work so hard for your food. Yes, he can provide for those whom he loves even when they sleep". In fact, when we put other parts of our lives before God we in turn become slaves to those things. Dwelling on an addiction or fears and insecurities or even desires will interfere and often take precedence over your relationship with your Creator. When you put God first in your life, God promises to provide the things that you need.
In Luke 12:29-31 God specifically says not to be anxious “And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. 30 For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you”. Time and time again, people who have made the time to earnestly seek God have found their needs met in the most unbelievable ways. Centering life around God inevitably changes everything.
Put God first in your life and your relationships. Allow his helper, The Holy Spirit, to refine you and you will find a different type of reward. One that the world cannot offer. In Matthew 11:28-30 God promises rest and that his burden is light. “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." This verse is in complete opposition of what the world promises and expects from you.
God wants you to love him with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind and to love your neighbor as yourself. As you put your faith in God's promises you may begin to learn that his promises are good. The time is now. Put your priorities back in order. Seek God through his word and his creation and share God in your relationships. Allow his spirit to purify and cleanse you. Whatever your situation is, you will find that all things are possible.
