Mother's Day should be a happy time for all moms. Unfortunately, many moms are forced to spend this holiday living in community shelters, the victims of domestic abuse or homelessness. For these women, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has initiated Movers for Moms®, a community-based program that collects simple gifts for delivery on Mother's Day.
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® and its Movers for Moms program has generated an estimated 25,000 items for needy moms this month with hopes of doubling that number by the end of the weekend.
Started by MichiganTWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisees in 2008, Movers for Moms now spans 14 states and more than 85 franchise locations, including:
- Arizona
- Connecticut
- Florida
- Georgia
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Michigan
- Nebraska
- New York
- North Carolina
- Ohio Texas
- South Carolina
Last year, working with schools across Michigan, Movers for Moms collected more than 20,000 essential items – including soap, shampoo, lotion, baby items – for women in need on Mother's Day. This year, working with school partners such as National Heritage Academies and Tutor Time, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK hopes to raise more than 50,000 items for women in shelters.
"I'm just overwhelmed by how successful this program is and all the time and donations so many people have provided," said Mary Ellen Sheets, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK founder. "We're grateful to the schools and other community partners that have joined Movers for Moms. Our efforts wouldn't be as successful without their commitment."
