Looking for a unique ways to get moving this weekend? Well, if you’re in Boise, you’re good to go. Check out Zoorobics at Zoo Boise on Saturday, and then head to the Fort Boise Community Center on Sunday to learn about wheelchair rugby.
Families can enjoy discounted admission all day at zoo while learning about “Zoorobics” and healthy nutrition at “Let’s Move Boise Zoo Day” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, February 11. Zoorobics is a fun new program for families that encourages everyone to get moving. Whether it’s hop like a wallaby or stretch like a giraffe, you can exercise like your favorite zoo animal.
At Let’s Move Boise Zoo Day, the first 750 kids will also receive a string backpack loaded with recipes and prizes. Parents can sign up for Grow a Row, a new program to encourage gardeners to share produce with local food pantries.
Let’s Move Boise is part of a national initiative seeking to combat childhood obesity by increasing physical activity and access to healthy food. For information about Let’s Move Boise, visit their Facebook page or click on this link.

Check out the newest sport in town at a free wheelchair rugby "demo day" from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, at Fort Boise Community Center, 700 Robbins Road. At demo day, people with and without disabilities are invited to try out the new chairs. All skill levels are welcome.
Wheelchair rugby, also known as “quad rugby” or “murderball,” is a fast-paced, fun contact sport offered by Boise Parks & Recreation’s AdVenture program. AdVenture offers social and recreational activities for people with disabilities.
AdVenture recently received a $23,400 grant to purchase new rugby wheelchairs. The grant was awarded by U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee, through funding provided by Veterans Affairs. The grants are intended to facilitate the growth of Paralympic sport programming for disabled Veterans and disabled members of the Armed Forces.
This spring, AdVenture will offer two wheelchair rugby programs. Sessions meet from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sundays from March 25 to May 20, and from noon to 2:30 p.m. Thursdays from April 5 to May 24 at Fort Boise Community Center. Cost is $24 for the 8-session programs. Scholarships are available. Drop-in sessions are $5 each.
