Yee Sang reflects the Chinese heritage of multi-ethnic Sabah, Malaysia. Located on the island of Borneo the state of Sabah is a wonderful fusion of many cultures. Celebrate its heritage at the Kota Kinabalu Hyatt Regency’s Chinese Restaurant. It’s position right in the heart of the city makes it ideal for business and leisure travelers.
The word “yee” means abundance while the “sang” means liveliness, both auspicious words, especially for the new year. The rainbow-colored raw fish salad is a “must have” specialty with families in Malaysia and Singapore during Chinese New Year. The platter usually consists of finely shredded vegetables and fruits with assorted pickle, flour crisps, crushed peanuts and sesame seeds served with slivers of raw fish, sweet plum sauce dressing, peanut or corn oil, white pepper and five-spice powder. It is presented on a large platter in the center of the table. Diners using their chopsticks in unison mix the platter’s ingredients while making wishes for the coming year.
Yee Sang is just one of the many specialties offered by the Hyatt Regency’s Chinese Restaurant. Try their Steamed Coral Grouper Hong Kong Style or Wok-fried XO Fortune Prawns or Stir-fried Broccoli with Pacific Clam and Sea Asparagus. The Hyatt Regency’s other fine dining establishments include the Tanjung Ria Café, the Nagisa Japanese Restaurant, Atrium Lounge and for a fun evening head to Shenanigan’s Fun Pub and Terrace.
