Organic wine importer Natural Merchants proudly presents SOFOS organically grown Greek wines now available nationally in the U.S. market. SOFOS white is a blend of 50% Moschofilero and 50% Chardonnay. Moschofilero is a pink-skinned grape variety and it is one of the main grape varieties of Peloponnese. The resulting wine is light and tasteful, with lemon notes, hints of mint and fresh summer fruits, an elegant crisp acidity combined with a long aftertaste.
SOFOS red is a blend of 50% Agiorgitiko and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Agiorgitiko is a fragrant black–skinned grape variety native to Nemea of Corinth in Peloponnese. The resulting wine has well balanced acidity and a medium plus body; fragrant of fresh blackcurrant - blackberry fruit, red pepper and hints of black chocolate.
The wines are produced by family-owned and operated Domaine Gioulis SA, situated in the province of Corinth, adjacent to the valley of Nemea on the Peloponnese peninsula. Klimenti adjoins the mountainous vineyards of the Protected Designation of Origin Nemea, and in 1994 was recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture as the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Klimenti. The climate in Klimenti is semi-continental with heavy winters and cool summers, which favors the application of the organic farming. The vineyards are located at about 750 m altitude thus giving the wines a minerality and length that is rare for hot-climate wines.
The family has an unwavering dedication to preserving their Greek heritage in winegrowing. Not only do they grow different autochthonous varieties like Agioritiko and Moschofilero, but the winery's location in the Corinth region gives them the flexibility to blend these autonomous Greek grape varietals with International varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay to achieve the most complex flavors with wide appeal. SRP for both wines is $11.99. Click here to purchase some!
