Whether you're a typical family or in the celebrity spotlight like the eight Gosselins, Labor Day tradition often involves a farewell-to-summer picnic. And that's a challenge when you're on a diet. Take a tip from slim celebrities like Kate Gosselin (Jon Gosselin definitely doesn't qualify for the "slim" category, as his now estranged wife often reminded him): staying on your weight loss plan means choosing foods wisely, whether it's a holiday or a typical weekday. This Labor Day, stay with your picnic tradition with choices fit for a fabulously fit star!
For the appetizer, skip the onion dips and potato chips. Cut up fresh veggies, such as cauliflower, broccoli, and zucchini. Add baby carrots and a sprinkling of heart-healthy black olives to your veggie mix. Make a diet-friendly dip with plain non-fat yogurt mixed with fat-free sour cream, a dash of Italian herbs, and a dash of onion salt.
Set aside those fluffy white hamburger buns and greasy hamburgers and hot dogs. Just say no to the potato salad, cole salad, tuna fish salad, and carrot raisin salad. Yes, potatoes, coleslaw, and carrots are part of the vegetable family, and tuna fish by itself is a healthy form of fish. But those four salads are typically loaded with mayonnaise and/or sour cream. Translation: fat!
Instead, try a homemade tuna salad of water-packed tuna with a squeeze of fresh lemon on a bed of romaine lettuce, with fresh tomatoes sprinkled with Balsamic vinegar. Or try one of the items suggested by Dr. Fischer, a celebrity diet doctor, who recommends "macrobiotic food, Japanese food, or salads".
What to drink? Try the new blueberry Sparkling Essence from R.W. Knudsen, which is calorie-free, sugar-free, and caffeine-free or the favorite sports drink of Michael Phelps.
And for dessert? Try a refreshing, low-calorie slice of canteloupe, a sugar-free, one hundred percent fruit frozen bar, or even Kim and Khloe Kardashian's favorite cookies!
