When you're immortal it would make sense that it would be in your best interest to make sure that the planet you're living on will be around as long as you are. Beauty, strength and the power of seduction are all fine and dandy, but are rather worthless traits once the ozone layer is gone, it's 135 degrees outside and all of the delectable prey you've been feasting on for the past few centuries have now either died or mutated into a less than savory snack. A vampire can be as vain and arrogant as they wish, but eco-minded as well.
Just ask Vampire Bill Compton on True Blood (Stephen Moyer). How can we forget the priceless scene where he explains to his young fledgling Jessica about the importance of recycling their bottles of Tru Blood beverage? That's what I like to call "responsible siring"! Vampire Bill's green tendencies are apparently a reflection of Stephen Moyer's real-life causes as well. Moyer recently sat down with the New Zealand Herald to talk about his new network mini-series Ice, a post-apocalyptic television sci-fi drama which takes place in the year 2020 as the world is being ravaged by the effects of climate change and the dawn of a new ice age. Here are a couple of examples from the interview:
Has playing this part altered your views of climate change at all?
I’ve been aware of it for quite a long time. Once you’ve got children you start thinking about what they’re going to live with, and their children once you’ve gone, and so I suppose, if anything, it’s just cemented my views in looking after everything. In what ways do you look after the earth then? Do you recycle?
Yeah, I’m pretty obsessive about it actually and I have been for quite a while in a very boring way. I think what we need to do is be more exciting about our recycling because I think everyone thinks of it as a chore instead of something that is possibly saving the world.

The True Blood star returns to the U.S. next week to begin filming on the third season of the hit HBO vampire series, much to the delight of Trubies around the globe! Personally, I can't wait to begin reporting on all of the juicy TBS3 news for the wait has been excruciating!
