Almost every household at one time has watched the 1965 version of the iconic musical “The Sound of Music” on a holiday to make it a classic and one of the most loved movies of all time. Now comes the re-imagining of the beloved musical as NBC presents “The Sound of Music Live.” Starring Stephen Moyer and Country superstar Carrie Underwood, the live version airing Thursday, December 5th, is an adaptation of the original stage musical. The musical is set to retell the story to a whole new generation of viewers. Underwood and Moyer star as Maria and Captain von Trapp. In the story, Maria, falls in love with Captain von Trapp and his seven children despite living in Nazi-occupied Austria at the time. The musical has some of the most famous songs ever written including "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," and "Sixteen Going on Seventeen." How does Moyer feel about the project?
“Yes, I’m doing “Sound of Music,” the "True Blood" star told Classic TV Examiner shortly after his casting as Captain von Trapp was announced. The actor has vast amount of musical experience and recently starred in a stage production of “Chicago” in Los Angeles. Even with his theater background, the actor also admitted to being a little nervous about performing the stage musical live. “…Who wouldn't be? It's completely nuts,” he says with a laugh. “But I'm excited. It’s going to be amazing. I started out in theater and it's always been one of my biggest passions. This is just an extension of that. If something goes wrong it goes wrong. If something goes right, it's great. It's amazing.”
