Last night on "True Blood" the fans were shocked by the death of Joe Manganiello's character. On Monday, ABC News shared what he had to say about the loss of his character. This is the final season of the show and now Alcide is gone.

Joe knew that he was going to die before they started filming this season. He was not shocked that it was coming when they told him either. Joe spoke out saying, "I had dinner with Bucky [showrunner Brian Buckner], and he brought the first three scripts and said, 'We’re killing you.' I said, 'I know.' He said, 'You do?' I said, 'Yeah. What are you gonna do with Alcide if he’s with Sookie? We’re gonna have a nice wedding and take off for Bermuda, then move away from town and stay there and have babies? That’s not the show. The fairy has to be with the vampire, so you gotta get the werewolf outta the way. You can’t have her break Alcide’s heart, because then people won’t like Sookie -- they’ll get mad at her for breaking the good guy’s heart. So it’s the only choice you have, really -- you gotta kill him.'"

At least he knew it was coming. Now that being said a lot of fans didn't know and went to social networks shocked that they would kill off such a big character so early in the final season. Also you should know not to expect him to come back to the show either. Alcide is dead regardless of what you might think.

He also explained a bit about the death scene saying he was not shocked they had him die naked. He said, "Yeah, totally. It’s 30 degrees in Malibu at night, and you gotta lay on the ground naked in wet dirt and try not to shake which is not easy to do when you’re out there for hours," he said, adding he's glad he didn't die at the hands of a vampire. "I’m glad it wasn’t a vampire, ’cause I think that might have been emasculating. He hates vampires so much, then he gets taken out by one of them? Is it better to get taken out by a nameless hillbilly?"

Viewers are going to miss Alcide. Don't miss the final season of "True Blood" on HBO as it airs on Sunday nights.
