'True Blood' creator Alan Ball's new project lands at Cinemax

Thanks to such work as "Six Feet Under" and "True Blood," it's fair to say that Alan Ball may very well have one of the best track records in all of show business -- so with that, the following bit of news should not come as a great surprise.

According to a new report, Cinemax has picked up a ten-episode season of "Banshee" -- a new crime drama that will be executive-produced by Ball. In what is some other fantastic news, Greg Yaitanes -- known for directing some of the best episodes of "House" -- is on board to direct the pilot. (He will also be one of many executive producers.)

There are not many details known about this project, though it does revolve around a Pennsylvania town and some criminals from the past (but not in the same way as "Alcatraz"). Cinemax has been attempting to delve into scripted programming for the past year, and Ball seems like a great person to get into business with.
