As a tried and true collector of action figures and figurines since childhood, I personally have been chewing at my nails with anticipation of the first series of True Blood collectibles. I must also admit that my expectations were extremely high regarding these items so I had prepared myself to be sorely disappointed by some cheesy Matel or Hasbro attempt to capture the characters I have grown to be so completely obsessed with over the past couple of years. I am happy to say that, after taking a look at the upcoming designs from DC Direct, I can open my wallet and shell out my hard-earned cash with the same enthusiasm as I have for the True Blood DVD set and tshirts I've accumulated. This geek and vampire loyalist is very pleased indeed!
Up until now, DC Direct has focused its creative efforts primarily on the DC comics universe and the World of Warcraft empire. However, now they have begun to branch out into the television series arena. Set to be released in 2010, the True Blood line of mini-busts are, as you can see from the images below, are exquisitely detailed, capturing our beloved vampires and mortals absolutely perfectly! The poses appearing to have been taken from the promotional posters for Season 2, the characters Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard), Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) are among the initial line. These are relatively small figurines. Eric measures at 7.25 inches high with Bill slightly shorter at 6.75 inches and Sookie standing 6.125 inches tall. These limited edition busts will be sold for $69.99 and will be available for order beginning July 21, 2010.
Also available from DC Direct is a minature replica of the Merlotte's Bar and Grill neon signage. Measuring 16 inches wide, the neon sign will retail for $89.99 US. Along with the mini-busts, it will also be available July 21, 2010. I have a feeling I'll be seeing this in quite a few of my friends' homes next year.
Remember, these items are limited edition which means after the first round of orders have been placed, they will only make this number and no more. So, mark your calendars now! The images featured below, which were recently released by DC Direct, are not the final designs, but are a good indication of what the busts will look like when you receive them.
