Trudy Schenk is one of the most popular authors on emigration German genealogy. She came to the USA in 1958 at age 20, with her mother and two siblings leaving Baden in Germany where she left the grave of her father, who she lost at age 3. Trudy was born Catholic but her mother converted her to the Mormon religion and they emigrated from Germany to Utah to be close to the central Mormon Church. Joachim Schenk who she met in the USA became her husband and after their two children entered the teen age, Trudy began intensively to work on genealogy projects. She successfully passed the exams for Accredited genealogist (German research) and together with different research projects she also co-authored a series of most important today books on German emigrants to the USA – Wuerttemberg emigration index.
At age 76 Trudy still intensively do German genealogy research. She likes the most when find the searched names and when is able to resolve puzzles. Trudy continues to do missionary work for the Family History Library and abt 20 hours weekly she researches ancestors mostly in the library. Her books have been embedded in the digital sources of ancestry.com as primary references for German emigration to the USA.
