A trucker protest is in the works, and the threat of a literal trucker shutdown as part of a move to block state traffic near Washington is said to be a sign of dissenting drivers standing against issues allegedly “ruining America.” According to Fox News this Tuesday, Oct. 8, the protest is connected with the recent (partial) government shutdown, and is being headed by a specific group of truck drivers who want to block traffic for a while as part of their own social movement.
The truck protest will be held by a group of politically interested drivers, Truckers Ride for the Constitution, and are trying to make a bigger name for themselves prior to the big demonstration coming this Friday near the Capital Beltway.
"Truck drivers will not haul freight! ... Stop the state threats … Truckers will lead the path to saving our country if every American rides with them!" asserts the group's recent post on their "shutdown" via the group's Facebook page, which caused well over 60,000 "likes" and counting as of Tuesday morning.
In the trucker protest, the highway drivers are allegedly said to be planning to block the Beltway and stop traffic as part of a peaceful protest this upcoming weekend, driving three days no less than “three lanes deep.”
According to their official list of grievances, the truckers are protesting a variety of state and national-related issues, including overall wages, rising gas prices, and federal tax and legal regulations surrounding the trucking industry. Most recently, the drivers are seemingly not happy with the NSA surveillance rumors and the increasing national debt as well
According to Earl Conlon, who said he is speaking for the Truckers Ride for the Constitution Group (though the group later said he does not account for all of them), they want some officers of Congress arrested for having “violated their legal oath in office."
“We want these people arrested, and we're coming in with the grand jury to do it," he added.
What’s your opinion on the attempted traffic shutdown and road-blocking as part of the upcoming trucker protest that (despite threats of cancellation) does seem to be happening?
