The trucker protest is gaining momentum by the hour despite reports that the trucker protest planned has been cancelled. Just in the past hours, the massive Facebook support for the trucker protest to take place is growing and reading some of the comments and support for the trucker protest on Facebook is making it clear that truckers have become a symbol and a voice of an angry nation. According to an Oct. 8, 2013, Philly report, truckers are “apparently going to utilize their most valuable asset — 18-wheelers — to swarm the U.S. capital during a three-day protest this weekend, starting Friday and ending Sunday. Thus, ironically, they will shut down a city already in the midst of a shutdown. How? By gathering 'three lanes deep' on the D.C. Beltway, also known as Interstate 495.”
The trucker protest to the U.S. capital is planned to begin as a public protest in the small Pennsylvania town of Gilberton, according to the Ride for the Constitution website.
Organizers of the "Truckers Ride for the Constitution" protest say their intent is to descend on the Capital Beltway this weekend for a political rally protesting causes ranging from the stalemate in Congress to low wages for drivers.
By reading the Facebook comments supporting the trucker protest, it is becoming clear that the voices are not just coming from truck drivers but from angry people across the nation.
Below are some of the voices supporting the trucker protest on Facebook just during the past few hours.
“Please ride through the closed parks...”
“We are continuing to pay these people who refuse to do their job (the politicians),,,and we can't afford to bury those that have died defending this country... 100 Million dollars spent on Obama's vacation in Africa this very summer,,,and no money for our slain veterans... Shut it down boy's and girls,,,SHUT THEM DOWWWWWWN!!! They have ruined our country.”
“Thank God, someone is willing to stand up for the American people. God Bless, Go Guys Go”
“May God send His angels to watch over everyone driving and protect their families while they are gone from their homes! I support you 100% ... I won't be shopping October 11 - 13!!!”
“Awesome! Can't wait to see it unfold! Behind you guys 100 percent!”
“Just a thought, it would be funny if the road to the golf course was clogged also. Hmmmmm”
“Thank you TRUCKERS for standing up for WE THE PEOPLE...”
“I commend you guys for doing something. Maybe this will be the vehicle to unite all the various groups together so we, the American voters, republican, democrat or whoever can really do something to effect change in Washington. Obama, the great divider, is destroying America, but when he leaves office we will still be stuck with the same politicians. We need to change Congress. How they get elected (No contributions from lobbyists, companies, etc.), No more career representatives. They need to agree to our requirements (what they will or will not do) in order to get elected and agree to resign if they do not do as they said they would. They need a top 10 list each year of the items we want them to work on (immigration, taxes, welfare, etc.) and they must complete all of them or they are terminated. I could go on and on about what needs to change, but I just don't know how we can really change it without groups like you taking the first step. Please be safe and NO violence please.”
Besides the many voices supporting the trucker protest on Facebook, only one voice opposed the trucker protest.
“This is so not the way. I agree alot needs to be fixed but this will only bring more negativity to the trucking industry. You can't fix politics with an industry that's already engrossed with negativity. This will give them reason to put more regulations on trucking. The government and trucking both need fixed but it needs to be separately. Blocking roads and causing traffic jams is a stupid idea. We need to handle the government as we the people of the United States of America not as an industry if you can't see the damage this will do to the trucking industry you don't need to hold a CDL.”
Ironically, “blocking roads and causing traffic jams is a stupid idea” seems to be proven wrong as eight House Democrats were arrested on Tuesday for blocking one of the main roads at the Capitol. If House Democrats believe that they can accomplish something by blocking, why not truckers with a trucker protest?
