For many people, the best time of year to visit Lake Tahoe is right now.
Tourist season is dwindling down, the daytime temperatures are still in the 70s and 80s, the gorgeous fall foliage colors will soon appear, and the waters of beautiful Lake Tahoe are still warm enough to take a swim.
A visit to Tahoe in September and October is a great getaway. But if what is keeping you tethered at home – your pet – is a major issue, there is a good solution.
For Bay Area visitors and people from the Sacramento region looking for a location to board their pet for a day, several days, or an entire week when visiting Lake Tahoe, the Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge has become a favored location year round.
Situated in the heart of downtown Truckee at 10960 West River Street, just one mile from Interstate 80, the Pet Lodge is a short drive from Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Northstar California ski resorts, all located on Tahoe’s gorgeous north shore.
The Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge is a reliable, safe, fun place to board dogs or cats overnight, and includes some “luxury” accommodations, according to owner Laura Vanderpool.
“Our mission is to provide a safe, healthy and loving environment for dogs and cats that visit the beautiful Truckee-Tahoe community,” Vanderpool said. “We’re a great option for people coming to Tahoe from the Bay Area and also the greater Sacramento region. Pet owners unfamiliar with Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge will find that their pets are treated to an environment as close to homelike as possible with fresh air, great food and warm friendship.”
That’s right, friendship – which is a little different concept than most pet boarding facilities provide.
At the Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge, one of the perks is daily group playtimes in their safe, monitored outdoor play yards, which are a great way to help your pet get acclimated and enjoy this temporary home away from home.
Private play times with staff members are also available for pets that are not suited for group play.
“We’ve boarded our dog at Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge many times and are extremely pleased with the attention to detail and the comfortable environment that our dog is afforded,” said D.J. Brown of Rocklin. “You can tell the employees and owners at Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge really love pets, and it shows in the care that they provide our dog. My husband I have great piece of mind knowing our dog will be handled with such loving care.”
The Pet Lodge will simplify your packing, providing everything from beds to toys to bowls. They can even call your veterinarian to confirm vaccination records, leaving you with one less thing to worry about.
The Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge offers full-service dog and cat grooming for all sizes, breeds, and coat types. The Pet Lodge offers a selection of grooming and bathing services through its grooming salon.
If a pet is staying at the lodge, a scheduled appointment can be arranged prior to departure. For people not interested in boarding, grooming services are still available. An appointment for a quick bath and dry before taking your dog home on the road can be arranged.
The Pet Lodge has a variety of suites available to accommodate any size pet. Some activity packages do include suite upgrades because some dogs or cats require more privacy. A reservation specialist can discuss the suite options.
Upgraded Suite includes
• Flat screen TV with round-the-clock doggie videos
• Individual climate control
• Furniture just like home
Dog lodging is as low as $22.95 per night, while Cat lodging is $22 per night.
