Troy University releases 2011 football schedule

The 2011 Troy University football schedule was released recently shortly after the Trojans starting spring football drills.

The Trojans will face another daunting schedule that includes five bowl teams from last year.

Troy opens the season on Saturday, September 3, at Memorial Stadium in northwestern South Carolina against Atlantic Coast Conference member Clemson (6-7). The Tigers are hoping to finally turn the corner in the ACC under young third-year head coach Dabo Swinney after a frustrating 2010 season. This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.

Following an open date, the Trojans travel on Saturday, September 17 to face Arkansas. The Razorbacks finished in the Top 10 with a 10-3 record while earning a Sugar Bowl berth and a second-place finish in the rugged Southeastern Conference Western Division.

Troy finally returns home for its home and Sun Belt Conference opener against Middle Tennessee on September 24. The Trojans crushed the Blue Raiders 34-13 last year.

The Trojans remain at home the following week on Saturday, Ocotober 1 for a non-conference tilt against UAB. The Trojans were on the short end of a controversial 34-33 loss to the Blazers last year in Birmingham.

The following week, the Trojans return to the road when they travel to LaFayette, La. on October 8 to face Louisiana-LaFayette. The Trojans defeated ULL on a last-second field goal in Troy last season.

On October 15, Troy returns home to face pesky Louisiana-Monroe. The Trojans fell to ULM 28-14 on the road last year.

The Trojans will enjoy a mini open date before traveling to Miami to face Florida International in an ESPN2 nationally televised game on Tuesday, October 25. Troy fell to FIU on Homecoming last year.

Troy will begin the month of November traveling to Annapolis, Md. to face Navy in the first meeting between the two schools.

On November 12, the Trojans will begin a two-game SBC homestand against North Texas before finishing up the home schedule the following week against Florida Atlantic.

Troy wraps the regular season up with consecutive road games at Western Kentucky (November 26) and Arkansas State (December 3).
