Troy Polamalu, #43 of the Pittsburgh Steelers, has his hair insured for $1 million, thanks to Head & Shoulders. Troy Polamalu actually uses the Head & Shoulders brand; he has spoken about it publicly, and he is the company's spokesperson. You can view a video of him discussing his hair care routine at the bottom of this article.
Head & Shoulders took out the $1 million policy with Lloyd's of London. Troy Polamalu hasn't had a haircut, not even a trim, for eight years. He has a 45-minute pre-game haircare routine. Polamalu told People magazine:
“It’s correlated to what a warrior in the past would do to prepare for war. You have the Mongolians, the Japanese Samurai, the Spartans – all of these warriors with long hair … and in that way you can almost get into the mind-way, preparing for some type of battle when you are doing your hair.”
Troy Polamalu's hair isn't the only unusual body part to be insured by Lloyd's of London. Other insured items through the years have included Betty Grable's legs, the hands of 13-year-old yo-yo champion Harvey Lowe, Lord of the Dance star Michael Flatley's legs, and Bruce Springsteen's voice.
