Troy Nickerson, Wes Brisco On The Mat guests Wednesday

Former Cornell University wrestling champ and Iowa State assistant coach Troy Nickerson, and professional wrestler Wes Brisco will be the guests this week for the “On The Mat” show for Wednesday, June 18, the weekly broadcast announced Tuesday via email.

On Monday, Nickerson was named the head wrestling coach at the University of Northern Colorado, taking the helm after the resignation of Ben Cherrington last month. Nickerson, who had been an assistant wrestling coach at Iowa State for the past two seasons, wrestled for the Cornell Big Red, where he was four-time NCAA All-American, two-time finalist, and 2009 NCAA champion.

Brisco will participate in the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame weekend, July 19-20, in Waterloo. Wes, a two-time state place winner at the Florida high school state wrestling tournament, is the son of Hall of Famer Gerry Brisco -- and nephew of the late Jack Brisco -- both who wrestled at Oklahoma State in the 1960s.

On the Mat" is a presentation of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum. The show can be heard live on the Internet at www.kcnzam.com or locally in Northeast Iowa each Wednesday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Central on AM 1650, The Fan.
