Concord Christian made history on Friday by announcing that Troy Fleming has been hired to be the first head football coach of the school.
The Lions will play a junior varsity schedule in the fall and then hope to field a varsity schedule in 2015.
They will be placed in District 3-A with Grace Christian Academy, Greenback, Harriman, Meigs County, Midway, Rockwood and Tellico Plains.
"Coach Fleming is an ordained minister whose deep devotion to the Lord, his wife and his children will make him an outstanding addition to the CCS family," Concord Christian Athletic Director Rob Murphy said.
"The impact he stands to make on the students and families of Concord Christian School and the Lion Football program made him the committee's first choice."
Fleming, 33, was a two time Division II Mr. Football Winner when he played at Battle Ground Academy, played his college football at Tennessee and also played pro football for the Tennessee Titans.
He has been an assistant coach at nearby Grace Christian Academy, Anderson County and Austin East.
According to the school's press release, Fleming was chosen among 175 candidates during the school's six month search.
Fleming will also teach teach business and Bible classes and serve as Chaplain.
Currently there are open jobs at Dresden, Brighton, Mt. Juliet Christian, York, Northeast, Pickett County, Chattanooga Christian, Hickman County, Whitwell, Middle Tennessee Christian, Bolivar, Fairley, Chattanooga Central and Jackson Christian as schools currently looking for a head coach.
