As many of you are well aware, the third installment of Visceral Games’ "Dead Space" franchise launched today, Feb 5, 2013 (deadspace.com). Stay tuned to this space in the coming days, there should be a review up by the weekend, if all goes according to plan.
The horror so far:
In "Dead Space", Isaac Clarke was an engineer sent with a team to fix the derelict spaceship, USG Ishimura. When the team arrives, they find the crew has been transformed into monstrous “Necromorphs” by an alien artifact, called the Marker.
In "Dead Space 2", Isaac wakes up on a space station called “the Sprawl” following his experiences on the Ishimura. The game starts out from the very beginning with scares, as you wake up in the midst of a Necromorph outbreak. Isaac, along with fellow survivor Ellie Langford have to traverse the expansive space station, and eventually stop a fanatical religious cult from activating a new alien Marker, and escape from “the Sprawl” before it’s too late.
In "Dead Space 3", Isaac Clarke and Ellie Langford meet Sergeant John Carver, a survivor of a Necromorph incident on the planet Uxor. They discover the frozen planet of Tau Volantis, where the remains of a two hundred year old colony is discovered. Learning that the people were able to stop the Necromorphs there, they decide to land on the planet, but the ship breaks apart, separating Ellie from Isaac and John. Isaac resolves to find Ellie, as well as completing his original goal of stopping the Markers.
New feature:
"Dead Space 3" is introducing a new gameplay mode, with a co-op partner named John Carver. All reports so far are saying that the co-op really enhances the game. Having played the single player mode on the demo, the gameplay was seamless, even in sections where Carver was on screen. He just seemed like another non playable character, so for the most part it looks like the single player style from the first two games survives intact.
Stay tuned in the coming days for my review of "Dead Space 3".
