Troubled country music singer Mindy McCready dead from apparent suicide

The life of Mindy McCready was often troubled, but now officials report a most tragic ending. The Cleburne County Sheriff's office has confirmed that the country music singer shot herself and her dog. McCready was 37.

According to the Associated Press, McCready's body was found Sunday afternoon on the front porch of her home in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Neighbors reportedly called police after hearing gunshots fired from the property.

McCready leaves behind two children, 6-year-old Zander and 9-month-old Zayne. Her death comes just a little more than a month after the death of her boyfriend, songwriter David Wilson, age 34. Wilson's death is still under investigation.

The singer had struggled with a long and public battle with alcohol and drug addition, even appearing on VH1's "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew." Her death follows yet another commitment to rehab, after her children were removed from her home.

If you or someone you know has a problem with a drug and/or alcohol addiction, there is help available. Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous are amazing resources. With AA and NA, you can choose a journey of recovery rather than the continuing, downward spiral of addiction.
