A low pressure system near Cuba lead forecasters to issue a Special Tropical Weather Outlook Statement at the National Hurricane Center on Sunday. Forecasters said the non-tropical system, located just west of the western tip of Cuba, is continuing to become better organized, and could become a “…subtropical depression or a subtropical storm…[in] the next day or so.” The National Hurricane Center gave the system a 30 percent chance of becoming a subtropical cyclone over the next two days.
Heavy rain and winds forecast for South Florida
Forecasters said the system, regardless of whether it develops or not, is expected to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the Florida Keys and South Florida area this week. The system is forecast to move north-northeast slowly tonight and Monday morning, and then turn northeast at 10 to 15 miles per hour toward South Florida and the Florida Keys by Monday afternoon or evening.
