Tropical Storm Karen formed this morning (Thursday, October 3, 2013) in the Gulf of Mexico near the Yucatan Peninsula as reported by KATC.com.
Louisiana residents from Grand Isle to Morgan City are under a Tropical Storm Watch. A Hurricane Watch has been issued from Grand Isle, La. to Indian Pass, Fl.
Tropical Storm Karen is located at 22.0 North and 87.6 West, close to the Yucatan Peninsula. Tropical Storm Karen is currently moving at 13mph in a North-North Western direction with winds up to 60 mph.
Tropical Storm Karen is expected to become a Category 1 Hurricane as it moves over the central part of the Gulf of Mexico but loose strength before landfall which is predicted not to be before late Saturday night of sometimes Sunday.
Landfall at this time is expected to be somewhere along the Mississippi, Alabama, or Florida coast. Louisiana hasn't been ruled out as the site of where Karen comes ashore, but a cold front approaching should keep the storm to the east of Louisiana.
Cuba and the Yucatan Peninsula will be experiencing lots of rain over the next 24 hours.
