Tropical Storm Karen continues in a north-northwestern path Friday morning (Oct. 4, 2013) according to WDSU News.
At 7:00 a.m., TS Karen was located 250 miles south of the mouth of the Mississippi River with sustained winds of 60 mph and moving at 10 mph. The storm is expected to turn in a northern direction later today.
The National Hurricane Center is now predicting that TS Karen will make a slightly more western landfall than previously predicted. This keeps the coastline of Louisiana on alert and extends the cone of possible landfall and heavy winds to Plaquemines Parish.
TS Karen was located at 25.2N and 90.0W at 7:00 a.m. Friday morning.
The following watches and warnings have been issued:
- A hurricane watch is in effect for Grand Isle, La. to west of Destin, Fl.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Grand Isle, La. to the mouth of the Pearl River (La.)
- A tropical storm watch is in effect for west of Grand Isle, La. to east of Morgan City, La.
Governor Bobby Jindal has issued a state of emergency for TS Karen prior to landfall. This means that price gouging laws are in effect now and Louisiana residents will not have to deal with fuel prices soaring. Any suspicions of price gouging should be reported to the Attorney General's office at 800-351-4889.
