Tropical storm Fred became Hurricane Fred late yesterday and quickly moved to a category 2 hurricane. Hurricane Fred maximum sustained winds near 105 mph, and is located over 500 miles to the west, southwest of the Cape Verde islands in the Atlantic, shown here in the bottom right of the photo. Hurricane Fred is expected to take a turn to the north and never reach any land masses. Fred is expected to move to a category 3 storm by Thursday, according to Weather.com.
