A Massapequa man was arrested Wednesday night after troopers pulled him over for allegedly speeding on the Meadowbrook State Parkway and found drugs and a weapon in his car, New York State Police said Feb. 27.

Andrew Laurice, 19, was booked on charges of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of marijuana and several traffic violations.

Authorities said he was pulled over shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday after a trooper clocked his black Scion sedan traveling 80 mph in a 55 mph zone along the Meadowbrook State Parkway near Merrick Road in Freeport.

While interviewing Laurice on the side of the road, the trooper “detected the odor of marijuana,” a news release said. Police said they found one gram of marijuana and “an illegal expandable baton” while searching the vehicle.

Laurice was issued an appearance ticket and released. He is scheduled to face a judge on March 27 for arraignment.
