A Glen Cove man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly crashed into another car on the Northern State Parkway, fled the scene, and then attacked a state trooper who tried to arrest him, New York State Police said.

State Police were called to an accident scene near the parkway’s New Hyde Park Road exit around 6 p.m. When a trooper arrived, the driver of a GMC – involved in the crash – said his vehicle had been struck by a gray BMW that fled the scene. Investigators were able to obtain the fleeing car’s license plate information and found the car at a home on Byrd Street in Glen Cove.

While police were questioning the driver, Shawn Bellamy, 36, he allegedly “became combative and pushed the trooper,” a news release said.

Bellamy was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, aggravated unlicensed operation, leaving the scene of an accident and other traffic violations. He was arraigned Wednesday at Nassau First District Court and ordered held on $4,000 bail.
