Augustine is out of the Greenville, South Carolina shelter, where he's ready to enter into a new life as a family dog. Facebook: CARE-Crossroads Animal Rescue posted his story on their Facebook page.

The first thing that had to go was his name. Now known as Trooper, this sweet baby was placed in the hands of those at CARE after some generous donations Saturday morning.

This Examiner article chronicled his shelter story.

Now Trooper has to face many medical needs after being scheduled for euthanasia due to orthopedic injuries. These were caused when he was hit by a car. Trooper has a broken pelvis and spinal injuries.

CARE doesn't know yet if surgery at a specialist will be needed. He will have to relearn how to walk after his injuries are addressed.

Trooper is a sweet boy, and loves to give kisses. Despite his condition, he has a lot of love to give everyone he meets.

This gentle dog is going to have a heaping helping of veterinary bills, especially if a speciality is required. CARE estimates he'll need another $2,000-$3,000 in donations. If any money is left over or not needed, the rescue will use it to help other homeless animals in their rescue.

Please click here donate, and share Trooper's story. You can keep up to date with this loverboy by visiting the CARE Facebook page.
