Rock/funk/rap/jazz trombone player and trumpeter Troy Andrews, AKA Trombone Shorty, brings his band Orleans Avenue to Des Moines' East Village on Tuesday for a concert at Wooly's. Andrews was a member of the Stooges Brass Band and also Lenny Kravitz's horn section, and he performed with U2 and Green Day at the reopening of the Superdome in Andrews' native New Orleans. In 2005, Andrews started Orleans Avenue, and in 2010 the band had their first #1 Contemporary Jazz album, Backatown. The album would stay at #1 for nine consecutive weeks. From there, Andrews would record with Galactic, Eric Clapton, Lenny Kravitz, and Dr. John, the latter on the Academy Award nominated song "Down in New Orleans". Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue released For True in 2011 and Say That to Say This last year. Andrews has also performed at an NFL playoff game and at the White House. Tickets for the Wooly's show are $25 in advance and $27 at the door. The music will kick off at 8:30 p.m. with a performance by St. Paul and The Broken Bones. This will be an all ages event. Michigan metalcore band It Lies Within will perform at Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines on Tuesday with openers Curses, Hunter Dumped Us Here, and Live To Conquer. It Lies Within released their first full-length album Chrysalis in 2012, and they plan to release their sophomore effort this fall. ILW is known for their positive lyrics and energetic stage shows. Music for the all ages VMews show will kick off at 5:30 p.m., and there will be a $10 cover at the door.

Omaha alternative/hard rock band Screaming for Silence will headline a Tuesday night show at the House of Bricks in Des Moines. The band released their debut EP Relentless in September of 2012, and they are currently working with producer Erik Ron (We Came As Romans, Motionless In White) in Hollywood to put the finishing touches on their first full-length album, which they hope to release later this year. Ohio rockers Silversyde will open the show at 5 p.m. The all ages event will have a $7 cover.
