The Argentine striker, Ezequiel “ El Pocho” Lavezzi, from Italian soccer club Napolí, dedicated his goal that he scored on October 31st against Brescia to the legendary Argentinean player Diego Armando Maradona.
Ezequiel Lavezzi dedicated the only goal of the game to Armando Maradona as a birthday gift. Armando Maradona had reached his 50th birthday on October 30th, and the goal was a tribute to him for being “el Pibe de Oro” (Golden Boy) of Argentina.
“El Pocho” made the only goal of an away game played in Brescia. The goal came at the 31st minute of the game when Lavezzi received a pass from the Slovakian star Marik Hamsik. The goal that Ezequiel Lavezzi scored against Brescia gave his club team, Napolí, the three points. The victory put the Italian club team from Naples in fourth place in the Seria A.
Lavezzi stated to SkySPort that he obviously dedicated the victorious goal to the Napolí club fans for celebration, but he also wanted to give his idol, Diego Armando Maradona, a birthday gift.
Ezequiel Lavezzi incorporated himself with the Neapolitan club on July of 2007. His success there has earned him the nickname “the new Maradona.” The club team from Naples, back in the late 80s, was a huge Italian giant when the club had Diego Armando Maradona in its squad. Maradona is considered to be one of the best players to play for the Neapolitan club in its history.
Napolí, with Diego Armando Maradona, was able to win two Seria A championships in the 1986-1987 and the 1989-1990 seasons. The club team also won its first European title in the UEFA Cup in 1988-1989.
Lavezzi is an admirer of Diego Maradona, and he had, in Naples, Italy, a tattoo made of the Argentine champion, Maradona, heading the ball.
