Triumph of the Hordes is New Phyrexia’s take on the classic Overrun/Overwhelming Stampede, trading a significant portion of the power boost for infect and a costing cost easier on the manabook.
Triumph of the Hordes
2GG
Sorcery – Uncommon
Until end of turn, creatures you control get +1/+1 and gain trample and infect.
(Creatures with infect deal damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters and to players in the form of poison counters)
Triumph of the Hordes is a great way to win with your Myr swarm or a few dinosaur-style creatures, reducing the amount of damage you’ll need to do to win by half or more if you’ve got a few infect creatures rounding out your forces.
Triumph of the Hordes is a great surprise card that works best with high power creatures you can get out early, things like Porcelain Legionnaire, Vulshok Replica, and even Accorder Paladin.
Traditionally the casting cost of Overrun style cards has been fairly prohibitive, costing massive quantities of green or large sums of mana – Triumph of the Hordes lets you dish out a potentially game winning salvo of poison from out of nowhere for just 4 mana.
Triumph of the Hordes will be blowing out plenty of Limited games, but may have some difficulty getting constructed format backing - infect decks typically rely on a single punch with a juiced-up infect creature or steady, incremental poison from a position of control.
