With a new record deal and album coming soon, Trisha Yearwood is releasing her first single in six years. The empowering track "PrizeFighter" features superstar and friend Kelly Clarkson. The new track written Jessi Alexander, Sarah Buxton, and Ross Copperman will be officially impacting radio on September 15. The track which is also the name of the upcoming album was debuted today.
The new Yearwood track is really just about falling down but coming back swinging, taking punches to get back up singing "When you're sweating from the fear/ You're looking it in the eye/ Turn the sound of defeat into your battle cry/ Stakes are down, you're out of luck/ Look at you smiling with a shiner/ Standing higher/ Prize fighter."
While Trisha sings most of the song, Kelly is harmonizing and combined, the ladies' two powerful voices blend effortlessly as fans of both heard over Christmas when Trisha and Reba McEntire joined KC on KC's holiday record Wrapped In Red singing "Silent Night." Towards the end of "PrizeFighter" Kelly gets to have her own little time but throughout you know she's there.
Kelly Clarkson and Trisha Yearwood have been friends for a while now, appearing on Yearwood's cooking show. Last year when Clarkson had a spot at the CMA Fest, Trisha joined her on stage to sing Garth Brooks "Ain't Goin' Down Till The Sun Comes Up" and blew it out of the park. Later they joined together for the holiday album and sang live for Kelly's TV special promoting the offering.
Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood may have been a good country pairing on "Something Bad" but Trisha and Kelly together is a better pairing with soaring vocals and an anthem like tune that will be sure to grab country's attention.
