Triple the dose of antioxidants

One marathon runner believes in living heart-healthy.  Susan Barron Smith, Arlington resident, has been running for 10 years and choosing all the right foods.  Her goal for the year is to run a half marathon every month.

She has about 10 marathons in place.  Susan will run through the cities of Dallas for Hot Chocolate, Ft. Worth for the Cowtown, and Irving in Heels and Hills.  She will also venture out to Austin and Sonoma, California.  She isn't sure about her fall schedule but she is definitely excited and motivated.  Her last marathon will be the Dallas White Rock.

How does she accomplish such goals?  Her diet includes grilled chicken, fish, and very little beef and pork.  The secret to her cardio endurance may be attributed to her triple dose of antioxidant, spinach with apples and pecans, no dressing.

Other antioxidants to mix and match are kidney beans, avocados, and broccoli.  As for nuts, you may add in almonds, hazelnut, or walnuts.  For dessert treat yourself to a small piece of dark chocolate; It also carries a high level of antioxidant.

Antioxidants may prevent cardiovascular disease.  Be kind to your heart and add some antioxidants to your meal.
