WIVB News in Bliss, N.Y., released information this morning that Army Spc. Austin Sampson, died Jan. 4, following a triple shooting in a parking lot near Fort Hood, TX.
Sampson, 25, a former Wyoming County resident was shot Jan. 3, outside a convenience store near base and died the following day at Scott and White Hospital in Temple.
The motive for the triple shooting is still under investigation according to Killeen authorities.
Army Times: Police said the Iraq War veteran and two other men were in an SUV when a gunman approached and opened fire.
Fort Hood officials indicated that Sampson entered active duty in 2006 and has been based there for the last six years.
Additional information shows that Sampson had seen two overseas combat tours and was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal as well two Army Good Conduct medals.
The two other men shot in this incident have not been identified, either as military or civilians, and both remain in the hospital in critical condition.
At the time of his death, Spc. Sampson was assigned to Headquarters Troop, 3rd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, at Fort Hood.
