Tripit app releases update, used by business and leisure travelers

Atlanta travelers of both the leisure and business variety have to be organized before they leave the house. A free Android and iOS app, Tripit, helps this happen.

After you book your online travel, simply forward travel confirmation emails to plans@Tripit.com. The service quickly scans the mail and creates a full itinerary in the Tripit application. All of your trip information will now be accessible in one place, ready to share, and you use it with Google Calendar to plan your trips.

The latest update for Android, version 1.8, is available for free in the Android Market and brings a few small changes. It is now even easier for travelers to navigate between itineraries and connections, and view reward program points for TripIt Pro users.

The app has always been useful on Android phones, but the iOS version always looked better and was a little easier to navigate. Tripit says the updated Android app looks cleaner — and I agree — plus the software takes up 30 percent less storage space, supports Google sign-in, and is without ads for $3.99.

Tripit this week also released some interesting travel data from its mobile user base.

It seems Apple or iOS users take more time off for fun trips. Many Apple users take four or more leisure trips per year. Android outnumbers iOS for the group that takes one to three fun trips. Interesting.

To explain how this might happen, . the highest percentage of Tripit users on Android are the crowds in their late twenties and early thirties. BlackBerry and iOS users of the app tend to be older: Late thirties and early forties make up the largest groups for these platforms.

Beyond TripIt, other popular travel apps for Android users are: Google Maps, Yelp and TripAdvisor.

Regardless of their differences, nearly half of TripIt's smartphone users said having all their travel plans in one place is the primary reason they would recommend the service to others.
