Here's a curious development. With all the 300+ wineries in New York State, which do you think is No. 1?
That's a loaded question, of course. "No. 1" can be decided by a host of characteristics and qualifications, and differently by different organizations. In the case of something called FlipKey.com, the state's top operation is the Adirondack Winery in Lake George.
That may be quite a stretch, considering the likes of Dr. Konstantin Frank, Glenora Wine Cellars, Sparkling Pointe, Chateau LaFayette Reneau, Wagner Vineyards and on and on that regularly score high in national and international wine competitions.
Nevertheless, the six-year-old Adirondack Winery, owned by Sasha and Mike Pardy, can crow about being included on a list called “50 States Series: Top Wineries & Breweries Worth Traveling For" by the official vacation rental blog affiliate of TripAdvisor.com.
Matthew Moretti, author of the report, wrote, “We’ve searched through every state in the U.S. to find the top brewery or winery currently operating,” and goes on mention the Adirondack Winery as New York's entry.
“We are so flattered to have this recognition,” Sasha Pardy, president of the winery, said in announcing the honor on Friday. “We work very hard to deliver an excellent wine tasting experience to each of the thousands of visitors to our tasting room each year and could not be happier to see that our customers have spread the word so vehemently through their reviews of us on TripAdvisor.”
The winery currently holds 4½ stars on Trip Advisor's 5-star rating system. Of the 192 reviews posted about it, 141 rated it 5-star. It also is ranked as No. 1 among 12 activities in Lake George and has earned a “Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence” for the past several years.
The Trip Advisor Popularity Index is based on traveler reviews and reflects a business’s standing against other businesses within its geographical location. It takes into account the quality and quantity of reviews and recent reviews carry more weight than old reviews.
