The shock and loss of a great and generous man has hit many of us hard this week. Losing Robin Williams is a tragedy, and one we will all feel for a long time. Because Mr. Williams touched so many of us with his heartfelt humor making us really feel life, whether helping us to laugh or cry, so many people have reached out with their thoughts about him.
Many celebrities, besides Johnny, have flooded to social media to pay tribute to the funnyman, including Henry Winkler, actors and celebrities Michael J. Fox and Jared Leto, Rihanna, Rita Wilson, Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman,,Sarah Michelle Gellar along with many others, (see below), and even U.S. President Barack Obama.
Johnny Depp almost worked with Robin Williams for Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's book Good Omens, which was almost brought to screen back in 2005 by Terry Gilliam but with lack of Hollywood funds -I'll never understand that, it never happened. Robin was supposed to be an angel, and Johnny a demon. I would have loved to see that come to life. Read more about that here at Contact Music.
Here's what Johnny said in tribute to Robin Williams,
"The world lost a legend of an actor and an extraordinary man today. Rest In Peace Robin Williams".
And here's the statement from President Barack Obama, who described the actor as "one of a kind".
"Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind," he said.
"He arrived in our lives as an alien - but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry.
Zelda Williams, his 25 year old daughter, posted an Instagram touching quote from the Antoine De Saint-Exupery book "The Little Prince," that seemed especially fitting for her comedian father.
"You - you alone will have the stars as no one else has them... In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing," it read. "And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night... You - only you - will have the stars that can laugh."
(His daughter Zelda) The "Nine Months" actress followed the quote with "I love you. I miss you. I'll try to keep looking up. Z."
Other Twitter tributes have come from Kristin Chenoweth, Jon Cryer, John Cusack, Jenny McCarthy, Logan Lerman, Evan Rachel Wood, Sharon and Jack Osbourne, Pink, Ellen DeGeneres, Rose McGowan, Shannen Doherty, Josh Groban, Eddie Izzard, Eric Idle, Ashley Tisdale, Marlee Matlin, Mandy Moore, John Krasinski, and Mia Farrow, who posted, "No! Robin Williams you were so loved." See more tributes here.
