Just a day after his latest work, L-O-V-E, was nominated in the Best Latin Jazz Album category for this year's Latin Grammy, Issac Delgado performed at the Conga Room Thursday evening as part of the CD's promotional tour.  L-O-V-E is a tribute to the Spanish material produced by Nat King Cole in the late 1950s - early 60s.  While Cole's English songs have been re-interpreted by several singers, including his own daughter Natalie, Delgado is the first to do so to Cole's Spanish material.

Delgado's soft voice is perfect for the jazzy, smooth sounds of "Quizas, Quizas, Quizas" and "Green Eyes" - songs that are by now standards that anyone will recognize.  And, in what comes through as a seal of approval to Delgado's endeavor, Cole's youngest brother, Freddy Cole (78 years old), is performing onstage with Delgado during the initial tour concerts.

Perhaps a few of those present missed the Timba and Salsa music that Delgado is well known for, and perhaps a better set-up for this concert would have been small round tables with white tablecloths, candles, and wine, instead of a large open dancefloor.  It was, nonetheless, a lovely evening of fine music that also turned into an occasion to reunite old friends - like the artists of El Septeto Nacional de Cuba, who arrived at the Conga Room after their own performance at the Catalina Bar and Grill that evening, to mix in with the crowd and enjoy a minute with the artists.
