Tribute: a poetry show honoring women of the past, present and future

 The most powerful and influential voices in Poetry can be heard right here in the Motor City.   The women who have worked hard to keep art thriving in the community deserve recognition.  On Saturday March 26th a special event will take place at the Detroit Association of Women’s Clubs.  The event is titled Tribute: A poetry show honoring women of the past, present, and future.   The evening will feature a presentation by Brook Blander, who is a dynamic artist, designer, author, and radio personality.  She has recently published her fifth book titled “Now That I am Here;  Lyrics From The Mud To The Sun.”  Brook will provide insight into publishing as well as reciting her original poems.  The program will also honor a spectacular woman who has made history in Detroit, Maxine Powell.  Her career has taken her from modeling in the Midwest to launching Motown Record's recording artist's images.   Her personal instruction helped launch the careers of many artists, including Smokey Robinson and Diana Ross. She takes pride in helping many young people develop life skills to become successful in their careers.  Maxine will speak about her travels and experiences.  This promises to be an evening of prolific entertainment and insight.The event is sponsored by The Detroit Association of Women’s clubs in collaboration with Free Flow Poetry and Theatre Co.The Detroit Association of Women’s Clubs is located on 5461 Brush Street Detroit MI.  The event will start at 6pm and continue into the evening until 9:30pm. Tickets are $7 and include light refreshments to be served.  To RSVP email cbrock@freeflowpoetry.com or call 313- 873-1727.
