The sports calendar in the Triangle is cranking up to full capacity as preseason college men's and women's basketball scores for the Duke Blue Devils, North Carolina Tar Heels and NC State Wolfpack have begun to to be recorded into the ledger over the past few weeks.
As part of the national hoops scene, both Blue Devils men's and women's squads are ranked in the top five in their respective AP polls, while the Tar Heels are not too far behind.
Add all of these hoops games to the Carolina Hurricanes' (4-7-3) early foray into the young National Hockey League (NHL) season, and the calendar of events in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area throughout the week for the next five months has increased exponentially.
The winter sports season has arrived.
However, as the Autumn leaves are still turning, there are lots of college football games remaining to keep gridiron fans chillin’ and grillin’ in the parking lots.
The Blue Devils (6-2, 2-2) are bowl eligible for the second straight season and for the first time ever in school history.
At the other points of the Triangle, the Wolfpack (3-5, 0-5) continues to struggle after suffering a 27-19 loss to the Tar Heels (3-5, 2-3) on Saturday, who are trying to salvage their season as well.
Many more highs and lows to come as the battle for attention and pride in Triangle sports continues through the month of November.
