Two Rhode Island witnesses report watching three lights forming a triangle "bigger than a football field" just 100 feet away that moved into "a large misty green opening in the sky" and disappeared, according to February 8, 2012, testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The reporting witness and a brother were outside smoking when they first noticed a single light as they looked west.
"At first I only noticed one light, kind of an orange orb with a red light inside of it with a yellow beam of light coming out of the top of it," the reporting witness stated. "It was at tree top level. I looked at it for a second waiting to see flashing lights like on a normal aircraft when I realized it was right there in front of me no more then 100 feet away from us."
The two ran across their yard for a better look.
"I noticed that the light was one of three lights on a large triangle that had to be bigger than a football field. My heart was pounding out of my chest and we were both kinda slack jawed looking at it. It moved from north to south alongside the house."
The two then noticed what appeared to be an opening in the sky.
"We both noticed a large misty green opening in the sky. It looked like a hanger door with frame work inside it floating in the sky. And yes, once the triangle was inside the green opening it all vanished. I know it sounds crazy, but we both saw the same thing. I was in the army for six years working on helicopters on an army/air force airfield. I've seen a lot of aircraft in my time in Iraq."
No town name was mentioned in the public portion of the MUFON report, which was filed on February 8, 2012. The events occurred on December 17, 2011. No images or video were included with the report. The above quotes were edited for clarity.
Rhode Island is a current UFO ALERT 5 rating, with a low number of UFO sightings nationally. Rhode Island had no reports in January, while California had 90 reports in January 2012 - the highest reporting state in the nation.
