Sandra Lane, 75, appeared in Oakland County Circuit Court Thursday for a pretrial hearing, at which it was established that no plea deal was in the works. That means trial will begin Monday for the West Bloomfield woman, charged with murder 1 and firearms violations in the death of her grandson.
Victim Jonathan Hoffman, 17, had been living in his grandparents' condo. His parents, who were divorcing, were in Arizona.
Last May Hoffman made a 911 call, telling the police his grandmother was shooting him. Multiple shots could be heard on the tape.
Hoffman was found dead in the condo.
Lane admits shooting Hoffman, but claims she did so in self-defense. She maintains that his behavior had put her in fear.
Lane's attorney claims he may have been under the influence of synthetic marijuana, and was angry because the probation department found it in his system.
The defense lawyer also claims that Hoffman has a history of violent behavior directed at relatives in the past.
