Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesportsblog@yahoo.com

When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.

2013/2014 Winter season- Week 1-December 2nd-December 8th

Male

Trevor Lyford- Penquis- basketball- Scored 36 points (10-12 from the FT line), including 10 points in the 4th quarter/overtime in 62-53 overtime victory over Schenck.

Lyford is the second student/athlete from Penquis high school to earn athlete of the week. Isaiah Bess earned the honor five times while at Penquis.

Runner up

Seth Brown- Stearns- basketball- Scored 38 points, including six 3-pointers in 75-72 overtime loss to Lee Academy.

Other nominations

Trevor Fogarty- Dexter- basketball- Scored 26 points in 59-42 win over Bangor Christian.

Hunter Smith- Foxcroft- basketball- Scored 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds in 36-35 victory over Ellsworth.

Trysten Pelkey- Mattanawcook- basketball- Scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds in 38-37 victory over Central.

Trevor Lovely- Winslow- basketball- Had 23 points and 10 rebounds in 65-42 victory over MCI.

Tyler Seeley- Presque Isle- hockey- Had two goals and three assists in 5-2 victory over Skowhegan.
