Trevor Lyford captures second athlete of the week

Each week during the high school sports season the High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com

2013/2014 Winter season- Week 6-January 6th-January 12th

Male

Trevor Lyford- Penquis- basketball- Recorded 29 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals in 52-45 victory over Dexter. Scored 30 points in 59-41 win over Mattanawcook. Scored 22 points in 61-53 victory over Schenck.

Lyford has led the Patriots to a 7-3 record so far this season. Penquis currently sits sixth in the MPA class C heal point standings.

This is the second athlete of the week honor for Lyford. He also captured the honor during week one of the 2013/2014 winter season.

Runner up

Spencer Thompson- Narraguagus- basketball- Scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in 52-45 win over Woodland. Scored 21 points in 46-22 victory over Machias. Scored 11 points in 63-60 overtime victory over Woodland.

Other nominations

Hunter Smith- Foxcroft- basketball- Scored 22 points in 53-45 victory over PCHS.

Tristan French- PCHS- basketball- Scored 23 points in 69-65 win over George Stevens.

Nate Burns- PCHS- basketball- Recorded 23 points, one assist and one steal in 69-65 win over George Stevens.
