Tressel resigns; Beamer moves into second

Following months of speculation, Jim Tressel  is stepping down as Ohio State's head football coach according the The Columbus Dispatch.

Tressel steps down with 241 career wins, 106 of them coming at Ohio State, allowing Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer to take over the second spot on the wins list of active coaches. With 240 wins, Beamer is now second only to Penn State's Joe Paterno's 401.

The trustees of the school were sent a memo this morning from Ohio State President E. Gordan Gee stating he had accepted Tressel's resignation.

Assisant coach Luke Fickell, who was already slated to coach while Tressel served his five game suspension, has been named interim head coach.
