Ever since Vick Ballard was placed on IR, the Indianapolis Colts have been on the hunt for a running back to take his place. Adam Schefter reported that the Colts have found their man. Indianapolis traded their 2014 first-round draft pick to the Cleveland Browns for Trent Richardson.
Much anticipation has been brewing within the Colts organization surrounding this transaction. Prior to the news breaking, Colts CEO, Jim Irsay, tweeted a series of ominous messages to excite Colts fans.
"OMG...the Earth is SHAKING!!!!! Shock and AWE is coming VERY SOON!!!!!!!" Irsay tweeted before finally posting the breaking news. "Colts Nation...are you sitting DOWN!!!!!!"
Irsay alludes to the fact that news of this trade would be shocking for Indianapolis. In fact, the entire NFL world was rocked when Schefter announced this transaction. While this trade is huge the Colts , the Browns are more affected in the short-term.
Losing their star running back means the Browns must find a way to fill that hole. Their depth chart is not very deep in that position, so this could prove to be a challenging task.
Looking ahead, however, the Browns now have double picks in the first, third and fourth rounds of the 2014 NFL Draft. As Schefter pointed out, the Browns main focus has been on rebuilding toward the future rather than worrying about their current status.
This trade proves that Colts General Manager, Ryan Grigson, is prepared to do whatever it takes to get the job done. The Colts organization has been focused on continually growing as a team without forgetting to live in the moment. Irsay also weighed in on how important this trade is to Indianapolis.
