On June 27th, Chef Rob’s Upscale Lounge in Atlanta held a book launch party and signing for Trenell Harris, author of Silent Voices.
Trenell is a new author but no stranger to Atlanta. He has compiled a series of poems in his book that speaks about men, love and men in love. A product of Clark Atlanta University, his new work is open and honest in its nature considering there are few male authors who write about this subject in prose.
The event was small in attendance but powerful and satisfying in the presentation. Along with host Koereyella DuBose of The Single Wives Club and acoustic guitar music provided by Romiah Armstrong, the night was mentally stimulating.
A quick canvas of the audience gave positive but mixed reactions. Some women in attendance said they enjoyed the pieces he wrote and mentioned they didn't know a man could write like that. Some men in the audience said he was good but wanted to hear more.
I got a chance to sit down and speak with the Chicago native and he was open and honest. Trenell spoke about how the book came to be, his two kids reaction to him being a new author, how he became a self-proclaimed relationship expert and generally what’s on the horizon.
With two more books coming out in 2015, Trenell Harris is a name you’ll be hearing about, and more importantly reading in the soon coming future.
