I always seem to find myself in some design store over the weekends. This time I realized a trend in bold graphics patterned throughout stores. Everything from throw pillows, lamps, rugs, wall paper and furniture. They are not your traditional floral but feature animal prints and more exotic patterns.
Here are 5 of the years most trend-able patterns in interior decorating.
Geometric patterns, these are not new to home decor but continue to dominate. Repeat patterns featuring chevrons, triangles, circles, and hexagons are especially a big trend. You can use geometric patterns on your walls or in a rug. Go bold with a painted floor or experiment with something as simple as accent pillows or a throw blanket.
Stripes thick or thin, colorful or monochromatic, vertical or horizontal. To add visual interest in a room stripes are a pattern to use. Mix horizontal and vertical stripes, mix and match polka dots and stripes or even mix stripes and another trend like geomatics to create a creative decor.
Animals prints are all over the home decor world this year. Popular patterns include leopards, tigers and zebras, birds, elephants and dogs. There is a never ending list of animal patterns you can find. Designers are using new bold colors, neutrals and rich fall colors for these patterns.
Natural pattern elements like faux bois (fake wood), feather and botanicals are making the rounds again. Don't be afraid to use these patterns for all aspects of your home decor from walls and floors to furniture and accents—and mix and match it.
Floral patterns are no longer your traditional flower here and there patterns. Designers have been coming up with more refreshing patterns. Monochromatic and colorful patterns are both popular, but florals on white backgrounds aren’t. Don’t be afraid to use flower patterns from wallpaper and furniture upholstery to rugs and bedding. The key to using florals is to not overdo it and to mix them with color accents.
This year has been the year of the design pattern in interior decorating. If you like prints and patterns, it’s actually fun time to be creative and use these patterns to decorating or redecorating your home.
